Pointstreak K-ForCE is a Baseball/Softball scoring application
for iPhone and iPod Touch. If you know how to score a game on paper,
and are familiar with the iPhone, you'll be able to start scoring
games right away. If, however, you are just getting started with
scoring baseball, don't worry, Pointstreak K-ForCE is extremely user
friendly. It's easy to score a baseball game; and it's even easier
with Pointstreak K-ForCE.
This latest release brings Pointstreak K-ForCE in very close alignment with our
other supported platforms (including Pocket PC and Desktop PC). This release
addresses nearly all of the issues identified in the app store reviews.
- Pointstreak.com Support (new in v1.5)
Pointstreak K-ForCE now communicates with the Pointstreak.com web server. Now you
can schedule your league games through a Pointstreak administration account, then
score games on your iPhone. Pointstreak K-ForCE will send Game Live updates so
fans can follow the game action at Pointstreak.com.
Before you can create
a new Pointstreak.com game, you must use the iPhone Settings to enter your
Customer Name, Serial Number, User Name and Password. Then, in Pointstreak K-ForCE,
select the Games tab, tap the
navigation bar so it reads 'Pointstreak.com', then select 'New Game'. In the New
Game view, select your League/Season, and optionally select the Scheduled Game. Only
upcoming Scheduled Games appear in the list (games within 16 hours).
- League Management (new in v1.5)
Although nearly all aspects of league, team and player management can be handled
through the Game Information and Lineup views, sometimes it is easier to manage teams
and rosters separate from the scoring of a game. Pointstreak K-ForCE now support
league management for your local iPhone database. Pointstreak.com league management
should be handled through your web browser at Pointstreak.com.
- Add Players From Text (new in v1.5)
In the League Management tool is a feature to allow you to create a roster by
entering simple text. More importantly, using the iPhone 3.0 operating system's
Copy and Paste capability, you can now look up roster information on the web, Copy/Paste
this information into the Add Players From Text field. With minimal changes to the
text, the roster information can be imported into your team. Alternately, enter your
player information on your PC and send an email to your iPhone, then Copy/Paste into
the Add Players From Text field.
- Double/Triple Play Wizard (new in v1.5)
Entering a double play or triple play can be complicated. The Double/Triple Play
Wizard make that process much easier. The wizard prompts you through each step of
the process. A bases loaded '1-2-3 DP' takes only 6 taps (plus one for 'Done') to
score inside the wizard.
- Import Public Rosters (new in v1.5)
Pointstreak K-ForCE now has the ability to download some publicly available league
rosters; this includes all major's teams. This information is derived from public
sources, and is intended for entertainment purposes only: the accuracy is not
guaranteed.
- Cut/Copy/Paste/Clear At Bat
Tap and hold over any at bat in the scoresheet view, a menu will popup allowing cut/copy/paste/clear
of the at bat.
- Mac Compatibility
Pointstreak K-ForCE provides native support for every kind of report (plus some)
available on our other platforms. In addition to the native KSS (K-ForCE Scoresheet)
format, which is compatible with our other K-ForCE products, WormHelmet.com, All
Pro Software's StatTrak for Baseball, Pointstreak K-ForCE now supports the following
formats:
- PDF Report - This scoresheet and stats report is nearly identical to the K-ForCE
Viewer's scoresheet output
- Text File - This report contains all statistics separated by tabs for easy copy/paste
into a spreadsheet or html editor.
- CSV File - Like the Text File report, Comma Separated Value files can be imported
by most spreadsheet software.
- HTML - This report includes a scoreboard, box score, game summary and play by play
in a HTML table form.
- Hit Type and Location
In the At Bat view, press the 'Hit Location' button (above the pitcher/defensive
lineup button) and touch the field in the hit location, then select the type of
hit.
In an effort to get the first time user started quicker, this section presents a series
of how-to tasks.
- Create New Game – More | Games | New Game
A new game will be added to the list and opened. The team names will be listed as
[Visiting Team] and [Home Team] until the game information is entered.
- Setting League and Team (first time) – Game Info
Tap on the grayed 'Visitors League' to type in the name of the visiting team's league.
Do the same for the 'Visitors Team Name', 'Home League' and 'Home Team League'.
- Setting League and Team (existing team) – Game Info
Tap on the blue '>' on the visiting team League field to view the list of
league's previously entered. Do the same for the visiting team,
home league and home team.
- Enter Lineup (new player) – Visitors | scoresheet
lineup area
Tap the blue '+' or 'Add Lineup Entry'. Tap the field with '##' to enter a
new player jersey number, 'Next' to enter the player's name, 'Done'
then tap on the position. The inning will automatically populate.
Select 'Lineup' to return to enter additional players.
- Enter Lineup (existing player) – Visitors | scoresheet
lineup area
Tap the blue '+' or 'Add Lineup Entry'. Tap the player from the list, tap
the position, the inning will automatically populate. Select
'Lineup' to return to enter additional players.
- Entering a Left Handed Hitter/Pitcher – Lineup | Add Lineup Entry |
Details
The lineup details view provides a way to indicate batter side and throwing arm.
- Enter the Designated Player
Use the eleventh spot in the lineup to enter the Designated Player or defensive-only
player such as an American League pitcher.
- Scoring Pitches – At Bat
Tap in the balls, strikes or two strike foul '+' to score pitches. Double tap in
the strike field to change a swinging strike to a called strike. Tap a third time
to change the called strike to a foul ball.
- Undo Scoring – At Bat | Misc | Undo
The Undo feature will back out the most recently scored play. If a home run is scored, all
base runners are advanced home and RBIs are credited. A single Undo
will put all runner back to their bases and remove the home run and
RBIs. Some scoring requires multiple actions: a fielder's choice
requires a put out comment for the baserunner. This 'play' is
captured separately in the Undo buffer. So this play would require
a second Undo to restore the game to the desired state.
It is worth noting that the undo buffer is NOT isolated to a particular at bat. So
when selecting undo, the changes may not be easily visible. In fact, an undo action
may revert scoring of an at bat in the previous half inning (for the opposing team
to the one being viewed).
- Scoring a Hit, Walk, Intentional Walk, Hit by Pitch – At Bat
Just like on many paper scoresheets, the most common ways of reaching
base are listed along the side of the at bat box. Just tap any of
the buttons along the right side to advance the batter.
- Scoring Hit Type and Location – At Bat
Select the Hit Type button (above the pitcher/defensive lineup button) and touch the
field in the hit location, then select the type of hit. The hit location is not directly
under the touch. This provide more precise accuracy of placing the hit location.
- Scoring a Putout of the Batter – At Bat
Tap the fielders involved in the put out. An outfielder defaults to a fly out, but
can be changed to an outfield assist by tapping the outfielder again.
Likewise, an infielder defaults to a ground out, but can be changed
to a fly out by tapping the fielder again. A '6-3' put out is scored
by tapping the '6', then '3'.
- Navigating to the Batter Up
Tap the 'Batter Up' button in the lower right corner of the at bat view. If the
batter is on the opposing team, the background color will switch to
indicate the current team.
- Advancing a Base Runner
In the At Bat view, occupied bases are indicated with a blue base. Touch any empty
base and the closest runner will be advanced. If the current batter is in the middle
of his at bat, a menu will appear to allow the selection of 'Stolen Base', 'Pass Ball'
. 'Wild Pitch' etc.
- Moving a Base Runner Back One Base
There are times where a base runner has been advanced an extra base and needs to be
moved back to the previous base. Unless this was the last scoring done, the undo
feature should not be used. Instead, switch to the base runner's at bat and touch
the last base reached. This will move the runner back to the previous base. If the
runner has made it all the way around the bases and needs to be placed back on third
base, touch home.
- Entering a Pinch Hitter/Pinch Runner – At Bat | Batter's
Name
Tap on the batter's name to navigate to the Lineup view scrolled to the
matching player. Tap the '+' to enter the offensive substitution.
One the player and PH/CR/PR position are entered, the inning and
other substitution details are inferred from the current game state.
To view or edit these substitution details select 'Details'. The
batter count, pitch count, pickoff count represent the details of
when the substitution occurs. The batter count is the number of
batters who have completed their at bat during the inning. A batter
count of zero indicates the substitution occurs at the beginning of
the inning (before any player has batted).
- Scoring a Putout of a Baserunner – At Bat | Base
| Out Circle
Tap the shaded base for the desired base runner to navigate to his at bat. Tap
the 'out circle' (directly above the 'K' button), then enter the out
comment. There is no need to enter the traditional '-' separator.
Simply enter 'CS 26' and select Done. K-ForCE will automatically
insert the separator to yield 'CS 2-6'.
- Batting Around in an Inning – Visitors/Home scoresheet view
Tap the inning header to designate an additional column for an inning. Tap
again to remove the additional column.
- End of Game – More | Finalize Game
The Finalize Game top level view analyzes the scoresheets in an attempt to identify
common scoring issues such as omitted defensive position, erroneous
substitution etc. Next select the game state, 'End –
Regulation' to indicate the game ended in the regulation number of
innings. Next verify the game start date/time and end date/time.
These should be automatically entered as the game is scored; but
changes will need to be made if the game is being transcribed from a
paper scoresheet. K-ForCE will set the Winning Team, Regulation
Innings, Last Inning scored, and Half Inning (when the home team is
not required to bat in the bottom half of the last inning). Check
and/or override these values as needed. Next, if desired, select
the Winning Pitcher, Losing Pitcher and Saving Pitcher. Finally tap
'Done' to return to the More view.
- Examine Game Statistics – More | Box Score
Tap the lower right corner of the Box Score view to reveal the settings.
- Print the Game Scoresheets – More | Tools
Enter an email address to have the game sheet sent to a PC. Once on a PC, the game
can be opened using K-ForCE PC Edition or K-ForCE Viewer and printed. Alternately,
send the PDF report and print from a Mac or PC.
- Add Statistics to a Spreadsheet – More | Tools
Enter an email address to have the CSV or Text Report sent to a PC. Once on a PC, the
statistics can be imported into a spreadsheet, for CSV files, or copy/paste using the
text file report.
- Publish Game to Web Site – More | Tools
Enter an email address to have the game sheet or HTML sent to a PC. Once on a PC, the
HTML report can be uploaded to your team's web site. Alternately, you can upload the
KSS game sheet to Worm Helmet.
- Import Data into All Pro Software's StatTrak for Baseball – More | Tools
Enter an email address to have the game sheet sent to a PC. Once on a PC, the
KSS file can be imported into StatTrak for baseball. Please refer to StatTrak for
Baseball help documentation for more details.
- Delete Game – More | Games
Use the iPhone's swipe gesture to delete a game. Swipe the game from left to right,
then select delete. This is also the mechanism to delete lineup entries, teams, etc.
- Move an At Bat to a different batter row or inning column – Scoresheet view
If a plate appearance is scored in the wrong at bat slot, this can be corrected by using the Cut/Paste
feature. Find the bogus at bat, touch and hold over it, select Cut in the menu that appears, locate
the correct at bat, touch and hold, select Paste in the menu that appears.
- Clear a scored At Bat – Scoresheet view
If a plate appearance is score incorrectly, and the undo feature won't work (because other scoring
had taken place), the at bat can be completely cleared using the Cut/Copy/Paste/Clear functionality.
Navigate to the scoresheet view for the team and locate the at bat, touch and hold over the at bat,
select Clear in the menu that appears.
The At Bat view has many scoring options which appear as menu items. Below is a list of menu
items, their meaning and use.
- K – Strike Out Menu
- K: Strike Out
This will record a strike out.
- KS: Strike Out Swinging
This will record a strike out swinging
- KS 2-3
A dropped third strike where the catcher throws to first for the put out.
- KS 2
A dropped third strike where the catcher tags the batter.
- KS E
When a runner reaches base on a dropped third strike because of an error, use this
menu item. Then touch the fielder number of the player who committed the error.
If the runner reaches in spite of a good throw, the out comment may be edited to
reflect "KS 2E3". This will credit the catcher with an assist even though
no put out is recorded.
- KS FC
A dropped third strike with a fielder's choice can occur is the catcher
attempts a pick off play at third base instead of tagging or throwing out the batter.
The most common case, however, is a dropped third strike with two outs and bases
loaded: the catcher may touch home instead of tagging or throwing out the batter.
- KS PB
A dropped third strike that results in a passed ball, and allows the batter to reach
first should be scored as "KS PB". If this batter scores, the run should be
unearned.
- KS WP
A dropped third strike which involves a wild pitch, and allows the batter to reach
first, should be scored as "KS WP". Unlike the "KS PB", if the runner ultimately
scores, this run may be earned.
- FC – Fielder's Choice Menu
- FC: Advance all runners safely
Score this when a fielder attempts to put out a runner on base instead of the
batter, and the forced runners advance safely, but a play on the batter would have
resulted in an out.
- FC: Advance no base runners
Score this when a fielder attempts to put out a runner on base instead of the batter,
and no base runner attempt to advance, but a play on the batter would have resulted
in an out. Also, there are cases where manually scoring the base advances
is preferrable to having K-ForCE advance the runners.
- Runner at 1st base put out
A fielder's choice that results in the runner at 1st (before any runners attempt
to advance) being put out.
- Runner at 2nd base put out
A fielder's choice that results in the runner at 2nd (before any runners
attempt to advance) being put out.
- Runner at 3rd base put out
A fielder's choice that results in the runner at 3rd (before any runners attempt
to advance) being put out.
- DP – Double Play Menu
- Double Play
This brings up the Double Play Wizard, which provides step by step guidance to
scoring a double play.
- 3-6 DP (reverse force)
This will record a double play where the first baseman receives the batted ball,
touches first base, then throws to second base to complete the double play.
This distinguishes it from most ground ball double plays where the batter is the
second half of the double play.
- 4-3 DP (Tag)
One of the most common youth league double plays: second baseman receive the ground
ball, tags the runner advancing from first base, then throws to first base for the
double play.
- 6-4-3 DP
This is the most common major league double play. The shortstop receives
the ball, throws to second base, to first base.
- 5-4-3 DP
Around the horn double play.
- 4-6-3 DP
- 3-6-3 DP
- 3-6-1 DP
- 1-6-3 DP
- 1-4-3 DP
- Sac – Sacrifice Menu
- SAC E: Reached on Error
In case of a sacrifice that allows the batter to reach on an error, record the hit as SAC E
followed by the fielder who committed the error. This keeps the batter from being charged
with an official at bat (as a normal error would).
- SH: Sacrifice Hit (Bunt)
When the intent of a bunt is to advance a base runner, score a sacrifice. K-ForCE records
a sacrifice bunt as SH instead of SB to avoid confusion with 'stolen base'.
- SF: Sacrifice Fly
When a fly ball is hit deep enough to score a runner from 3rd base, score a sacrifice fly.
- Misc – Miscelaneous Menu
- Undo
When a scoring mistake is made, the scoresheet can be reverted to its previous state
by selecting the Undo menu. If the scoring mistake involves K-ForCE automatically
advancing base runners, the runners will be reverted as well. WARNING: The undo
'stack' is NOT isolated to a particular at bat or scoresheet. So if undo is executed
from an at bat for the home team, but the most recent scoring was for the visiting
team, the undo action will not be immediately visible.
- E: Reach Base On Error
When the batter reaches base on an error by the defense, score an error, then select
the fielder who committed the error. To credit a fielder with an assist when an error
is committed receiving an accurate throw, edit the base advance comment and change it
to the form '5E3'. This will credit the third baseman with an assist and an error to
the first baseman.
- CO
Catcher's Obstruction should be scored when the catcher obstructs the batter. This
happens when the batter hits the catcher's glove with the bat while attempting to
hit a pitch. The batter is not charged with an official at bat. If the batter
ultimately scores, the run should not be credited as an earned run. However, if
a run scores as the result of the CO, an RBI should be credited.
- TP: Triple Play
This brings up the Triple Play Wizard, which provides step by step guidance to
scoring a triple play.
- ITB: International Tie Breaker
In some leagues and tournaments, a tie breaker runner is placed on second base to start
the inning. This runner is the player in the batter order just before the batter up in
the inning (usually the last out of the previous inning). Navigate to this at bat and
select ITB to place the player on 2nd base. K-ForCE supports a tie breaker rule which
places runners at first and second base. This addition runner at first base can be
placed at first manually by scoring a single, then replacing the '1B' comment with 'ITB'.
- Switch Batter Side
In the lineup details, a batter can be specified as batting right, left or switch. There
are times, however, when the batter switches sides from which he normally bats. Use this
menu to have the batter switch which side of the plate he is batting.
- Skip Batter
There are two primary purposes for this feature: when a player is removed from the lineup
after the start of the game and rules allow for compressing the lineup, select 'Skip
Batter' each time the batter is scheduled to come to the plate. The other reason to
indicate a skipped batter is when a team bats out of order, but the defensive team
does not appeal the violation. The worst case scenario is when the offensive team
bats the same batter who ended the previous inning. In this case, eight players may
need to be marked as skipped, to bring the lineup back around to the 'current' batter.
If, however, the defensive team appeals the at bat, the proper batter is charged with
the at bat. So in this case, there is no need to do anything special - just score
the at bat as though the proper batter took his at bat. If he reaches base safely and
is called out on appeal, score the out as '2' (catcher unassisted).
- Last Batter
Some youth leagues have a per inning run rule, or some other rule which causes an inning
to be declared over before the third out. Use the 'Last Batter' feature to mark a
batter as the last batter of the inning. The next inning will start with the following
batter in the lineup. Notice in the fielding statistics that less than a full inning
is credited to each fielder, and pitcher.
- E1 - E0: Dropped Foul
If a foul ball popup is dropped when, under ordinary effort dictates that it should
have been caught, score an error on the fielder who dropped the foul ball. If the batter
later reaches base and scores, the run should not be earned.
- Base Runner – Base Runner Menu
- Next Batter
Use this to navigate to the next batter in the lineup. This is NOT the batter up. If
viewing the at bat for the top of the order, the next batter would be batter two. If
viewing the bottom of the order, the next batter would be the top of the order.
- Previous Batter
Use this to navigate to the previous batter in the lineup. If viewing the at bat for
the top of the order, the previous batter would be the bottom of the order.
- Next Inning Column
Use this to navigate to the next inning column for the current batter.
- Previous Inning Column
Use this to navigate to the previous inning column for the current batter.
Most views and the features are intuitively designed, others provide
some way to be discovered. One example is the scoreboard on the main scoresheet view. Only
8 and a half innings are visible. This is to help users discover the innings section of
the scoreboard scrolls. Below is a list of features and capabilities which may not be as obvious.
- Entering the Lineup – Visitors/Home scoresheet view
Tapping the lineup section of the scoresheet will not only switch to the Lineup
view, but also scroll to the position in the lineup based on the
location of the tap.
- Scoring At Bat – Visitor/Home scoresheet view
Tapping in the At Bat section of the scoresheet will switch to the At Bat view
corresponding to the location of the tap.
- Zoom In/Out – Visitor/Home scoresheet view
Using the iPhone pinch and stretch capability, the main scoresheet can be resized larger or
smaller.
- Translucent Scoreboard – Visitor/Home scoresheet view
Tap the game score area to make the scoreboard translucent, allowing more of the scoresheet
to become visible.
- Scoresheet Badge – Scoresheet Tab Bar items
An iPhone 'badge' appears over each of the Visiting and Home scoresheet tab items.
These badges report the current score of the game. It is visible no matter which
top level view is active.
- Highlighted Inning/Batter – Visitors/Home scoresheet view
When a game is in progress, the current inning is highlighted. The offensive
team's current batter is also highlighted.
- Designated Player – Lineup view
The designated player, or DP, refers to a player who is in the lineup but does not
bat. This is the defensive counterpart to the Designated Hitter or Flex Player. All
hitting players are listed, followed by a blank lineup entry, then
any designated players.
- Batting Left/Throwing Left – Lineup | Lineup Entry | Details
Each at bat indicates the batting side. This is set when the Batter Up
feature is used. Navigating by tapping the scoresheet at bat area
will not set the batter side. Switch hitters will be set to bat
left against right handed pitchers. The batter side can be changed
using the At Bat view | Misc button | Switch Batter Side menu.
- Base Advance Comment/Out Comment
Each base advance comment/out comment can be freely modified by tapping the comment text.
- Lineup Details/Base Advance Details
K-ForCE identifies each game event (lineup, base advance, putout) as occurring at a point
in the game identified by Inning, At Bat count, Pitch count, and Pickoff count.
An at bat count of zero indicates the lineup change occurred before
a single batter has completed his at bat for the given inning. A
pitch count can identify when a stolen base occurs. K-ForCE
currently does not track failed pickoff attempts. So currently, the
only purpose for a pickoff count is to indicate that a pickoff
occurs after a pitching substitution but before the first pitch.
- Out Batter – At Bat view
When a player is putout on the bases, K-ForCE draws a partial line from the last base
reach safely and indicates the player jersey number of the batter up when the putout
occurred. This is referred to as the 'Out Batter'. Edit the out
batter details to adjust the batter count/pitch count/pick off
count.
- Two Strike Foul Ball – At Bat view
On a paper scoresheet, two strike foul balls are usually indicated by '+' or dot symbols:
K-ForCE uses the '+' notation. Tap the '+' that appears next to the
strike boxes after two strikes to score additional foul balls.
- Advancing Baserunners – At Bat view
Touch the unoccupied base to advance a runner. K-ForCE will advance the nearest base runner.
- Cut/Copy/Paste/Clear At Bats – Scoresheet view
From a team's scoresheet view, touch and hold over an at bat to bring up an edit menu allowing
cut/copy/paste and clear of the selected at bat. This allows for manually correcting a scoresheet
where an at bat is scored for the wrong player, inning, or team.
