From the main window, tap on of the at bat boxes, or tap the 'Batter Up' menu, and the at bat scoring window appears. This is where all game scoring is done.
Scoring balls and strikes is as easy as tapping on of the five pitch boxes. When two strikes have been scored, additional foul balls are scored by tapping the '+' next to the pitch boxes. Numbers appear in the boxes indicating the pitch count of each ball/strike. In addition, you can enter strikes with a tap and swipe up to indicate a foul ball, or a tap and swipe down to indicate a called strike. This leaves a tap and release indicating a swinging strike. This take some practice; but is not hard to master.
The most common ground out play is to first base. A ball hit to the shortstop, thrown to the first baseman for a force out is scored '6-3'. If you tap any of the infielder numbers an out is recorded (indicated by a circled 1, 2 or 3) and the fielder's number is inserted into the comment. Tap the '3' at first base, class then tap an empty area to accept the changes. A dash is automatically inserted between the numbers.
One of the most common plays is a fly out. A fly out to center field is scored as 'F8'. To score this with K-ForCE simply tap the '8' in center field. An out is scored and an 'F8' comment is inserted. Tap an empty area of the window to accept the changes.
Since a fly out is presumed when an outfielder is tapped, and a ground out is presumed when an infielder is tapped, how do you score a ground out hit to right field? Sections 4.2 & 4.3 gave the shortcut way of scoring the most common kinds of outs. But often there is no shortcut. To score the force out from right field to first base (9-3), tap the gray circled number to indicate the out, the tap the right field '9', then the first base '3'. One more tap accepts the changes.
Scoring a hit consists of drawing a line from home to first base and continuing to where the runner stops.
Some scorecards list 1B, 2B, 3B & HR along the right side of the at bat box. The appropriate one should be circled. Other scorecards omit this. On these scorecards, write the symbol next to the line leading to the last base reached safely.
K-ForCE follows the latter convention. To score a double, just tap the square button between first and second. The lines will be drawn and a comment '2B ' will be inserted.
Note: A space follows the '2B' so you can finish by indicating the player who fielded the ball (i.e. '2B 7' would indicate a double fielded by the left fielder).
Along the bottom of the window are menues to the most frequently scored plays: BB, IBB, HBP, FC, K, KS, DP, E, F, SF, SA. Hold the stylus down over each of the abbreviations to see what they mean.
A walk will automatically advance base runners, and if bases are loaded an RBI is scored for the batter.
Once you've scored the out or hit, you want to move on to score the next batter. Tap the grey square at home plate in the small diamond at the right. This will take you to the 'batter up', even if it's a batter for the other team. The 'Next'/'Prev' buttons advance you through the order without regards to who's at bat.
Once you've scored a pitch or two, you might need to score a stolen base (SB) for the runner on first. Just tap the first base on small diamond at the right to score that player. Tap the 'SB' menu at the bottom and a line is drawn and a comment inserted with 'SB' followed by the batter's number. Tap home plate on the small diamond and you're back to scoring the batter. You can also advance runners from the current batter's AtBat. Simply drag a runner from one base to another. A popup menu appears giving you the opportunity to enter the base advance comment.
